What a country eh! Got the part!

I had accepted the decision that I would not get the part in the movie Clear lake. Small with only four lines, however my first speaking roll. I had spent the day with my best friends Sonny and his wife Evelyn. Friends since teenagers. I came home and had a message from Lori Casting director with next Casting. I was to call her. I called and left a message. I've worked with next casting since 2001. Most calls were for a time and place and what to wear. A brief description of the movie. The phone rang around lunch time. Lori from casting, Maurice I want to let you know that we decided your audition was to good to pass up. We had to convince actra that we wanted you for the roll as the " Salvage yard boss". How and who they had to convince I was the choice for the roll is the part of the business I don't understand. However from an extra to an actor, what a change from just a few days ago. I had a cell phone that I gave up about fifteen years ago. Lori had asked me when she called my about my first audition as the Salvage yard boss, if I had a cell phone. I said then, I can't afford that luxury. Believe me the $90.00 investment was a stretch for me, however I got a cell phone. So now I'm in a different ball game. Exciting, absolutely! Where will it take me? Who knows with this crazy business. Looking forward to the journey. I can't forget the last twenty seven or so years of living "one day at a time".

“How not to Audition”

How not to audition for a thirty second commercial! Working as a movie extra is simply just doing what you are directed to. I auditioned for a speaking role in a local low budget independent feature film. Two auditions and I had it nailed down. The buzz about my scene as the Salvage yard boss in the movie Clear Lake has been good. The wrap party was an interesting evening to say the least. I was congratulated on my performance.
I’ve been in the movie biz since 2001. This was my first chance at a speaking roll. It does not often happen in the industry. I had sent my photo and resume to Jim Heber the casting director for principle actor speaking rolls in Winnipeg. Not expecting to ever be called, I was invited to audition for a TV commercial. They sent me the script by email.
Two thirty second commercials for a product called Dekalb. Monsanto is one of the largest agricultural suppliers in the world. I was to audition on Tuesday July 29. I had studied the lines feeling good about my ability to deliver the goods necessary to get the part. Wow was I wrong!!! Auditioning for a commercial was totally different than a part in a movie. Stand look directly into the camera read your lines as suggested and that is it!
Most importantly pronounce the product name correctly. The Monsanto representative was watching each audition. I was third or fourth in line to go into the room. Each audition took no longer than a few minutes. I could hear the people ahead me read their lines. Ok, no big, deal sounds simple enough. I went in and totally blew the whole audition. I found it difficult to look directly into the camera, and did not read exactly as directed, also mispronounced the product name. I know for sure they have picked the candidate to do the commercial, and it’s not me. Does this mean I may never get the chance to audition for a speaking roll with the only speaking roll Director again???

The audition was good all are happy!

Wow what an experience that was! I had made up my mind prior to going to the audition that I know my lines well. I checked my ego at the door, walked in to meet a down to earth director who had checked his ego as well. A young man for sure, cordial, friendly, unassuming open to what you can offer. Amazing how well things go when competition is removed from the equation. Lori the casting director for Next casting was there. An other lady that read lines so I could give my spiel. I had made up my mind that I was going to give it my best. I always knew that given the chance I could give a convincing performance. The directors response was positive and he seemed pretty happy with my take on the lines. So much so that he had me read lines for an other part. OK I will relax and enjoy the experience and let things unfold and see what is to come next. I've been in the business long enough to know that things do change and not to get my hopes up to much. However I'm sure we will be meeting some time in the near future. I can always be that extra that they always need. I hope that I get the chance to prove my worth as a speaking actor. All in all it was a great day for sure. I had been at a loss for words for some time now. Writers block I guess. I'm in a good place emotionally and feel the flow is coming back. Before I wear out my welcome I will shut down and save it for an other day. By for now!

A promise to Dream! Only you can Dream! I have a Dream?

I was told a long time ago that "I was a dreamer." The greatest promises are an other persons dreams. Two dreamers never connect on the same level.
The human animal has evolved from dreams into a degree of reality. A thought is a dream,or is a dream a thought? The crazy clue that keeps us in a semi state of reality is dreams. I dreamt I broke a promise. To many disappointment's come from an others dream! Expectations come from a dream, however anger comes from a disappointed expectation!
Only Human intelligence can make a false promise. Is it true then, that we are chronic liars? Who made the first promise? Complicated for sure! I had a dream to confuse you and I kept my promise! Don't be disappointed, just come up with a better dream. So dream on people and remember to keep a promise?
